    The entry-price for Fiat’s new 500X has come down with the launch of new 94bhp 1.3-litre MultiJet engined versions. Prices now start at Ј16,345 for the Pop 1.3 MultiJet, with the mid-range Pop Star version costing Ј18,095, and the flagship Lounge edition priced at Ј19,845. The new 1.3-litre engine is Ј1,000 cheaper than the 118bhp 1.6-litre version, and introduces the more basic, entry-level Pop specification to the diesel engine range for the first time. But despite the more modest power output, there’s no savings to be made on CO2 emissions, as both engines emit the same figure of 109g/km, and according to official figures, capable of 68.9mpg on the combined cycle. The new 1.3-litre engine is available to order now, with the first deliveries expected in the new year.

    Hands up-wedidn’t expect this. But givenBimotahavebased their newretro on theirmost contemporary, exclusive model we don’t think anyone did. TheirwildTesi 3D (Bike, Aug 2015 issue) is an engineeringmasterclass.Hub centre steering and a front swingarm separate suspension, steering and braking forces - so suspension functionswhile braking, bumps don’t affect steering, and so on. It’s amodernvisionof hewnaluminiumand hand-finishedparts. And soBimota think thismakes it perfect for some retroaction. For theRaceCafe the 3D’s angular body is swapped for a traditional profile and tiny seat unitwith the essential brown perch, and there’s the same headlight as onAriel’sAce. The 1078ccDucati V twin is swapped for the803cc Scrambler unit, with a curvy new pipe. Swingarms are un retro carbon. Stare long enough and, fromsome angles, the RaceCafe almost works… but not quite. For us, a Tesi should be all about sharp, cutting edge design. Other Bimotanews ismorepleasing. The newImpeto uses the Diavel’s bulging 1198ccTestastretta engine, anoptional blower taking peak power past 200bhp. Youcan specify a carbon frame, too. Best of all, Bimota are going back to their roots andoffering frame kits. Their BB3 canbe supplied as a rolling chassis to take the motor from a salvaged BMW S1000RR. Just like the good old days. Let’s hope the kit option extends to more models - we’d love to build our own Tesi (no brown seat).
  • MT-10.

    Probably the most eye-catching and exciting motorcycle at EICMA 2015, the sharp and edgy MT-10 is actually a naked version of Yamaha’s awesome YZF R1. It is powered by a reworked 998-cc in-line four with the crossplane crankshaft. Output figures remain shrouded in mystery, unfortunately. The MT-10, like a host of other motorcycles across manufacturers, gets the benefit of ride-by-wire, which is further shored up with selectable power modes, traction control and so on. However, the inertial measurement units of the range-topping R1 will not be seen in the electronics package of the MT-10. Although the bike doesn’t look like it’s headed for India anytime soon, it will surely catch a whole lot of eyeballs and swing them Yamaha’s way if the Indian arm of the MotoGP world championship winning manufacturer do decide to take the bold step.
