  • 2017 Suzuki SV650.

Suzuki has announced that the ever-popular SV650 will make its offi- cial return to the States next year, this after Suzuki saw just intermittent success with its Gladius and SFV650 models. Introduced as an early-release 2017 model, the new SV features 140 redesigned components for both the engine and chassis and weighs around 15 pounds less than the outgoing SFV while producing a claimed 75 hp (versus 71 hp for the SFV). Specific changes to the engine include new pistons with resin-coated skirts, a new exhaust system, and staggered intake funnels that improve midrange performance. The bike also features Suzuki’s one-push easystart system, as well as a low-rpm assist mode, which activates the bike’s idle speed control valve at low engine revs to assist with leaving a stop. On the chassis side, Suzuki’s goal was to make the bike more compact and narrow, which it’s accomplished with updates to the frame and changes to the tank that reduce overall tank width by just over 2.5 inches. The new SV650 will be available early summer 2016.
  • RENAULT.

A new special edition version of the Twingo has been unveiled by Renault called the Iconic. It’s available with both the 1.0 SCe 70 petrol engine and 0.9 TCe 90 powerplant, with both versions falling below the magic 100g/km CO2 barrier. Priced at Ј11,845 for the former and Ј12,545 for the latter, the Twingo Iconic is based on the Dynamique model, and features cruise control, electric front windows, front fog lights, electric and heated mirrors, DAB digital radio, rear privacy glass, gloss black door mirrors and a navigation system that operates via your smartphone. Moving to the cabin, there’s black part leather upholstery with white and violet piping, climate control, automatic headlights and wipers, as well as door sill plates and floor mats. Two unique colours are offered - Ultraviolet and Lunar Grey - as well as black and white. Along the side of the Twingo Iconic there’s Ultraviolet side decals and a similarly coloured emblem on the centre caps of the 16-inch alloy wheels. Black alloy wheels are offered as a no-cost optional extra. The new Twingo Iconic is available to order now from Renault dealers.
  • Exemplary Explorers.

Triumph have updated their largest adventure bike, and like the Tiger 800 there are now two types: the cast-wheel tarmac-biased Explorer XR, and the spoke-wheel trail-ready Explorer XC. The basic version of each bike is pretty much as before. So that’s a luxurious and syrupy 1215cc ride-by-wire inline three, bolted into a substantial chassis with single-sided swimgarm and shaft drive. Suspension is now supplied by WP, however, and the front brakes are one-piece radial Brembos. There are two riding modes, road and rain, each with their own throttle maps and specific settings for the standard-fit traction control and ABS. The classy dash is also new, switchgear is refined, and the screen now moves at the touch of a button. Yes, it’s electric. That’s a class first, you know. As with the smaller Tigers there are flashier variants too. The Explorer XRx and XCx feature an additional off-road mode with its own settings. Better than that, they also have leanangle sensitive traction control and cornering ABS. That’s right - you can go full gas or grab the lever mid-corner, and a little black box squares the job up. The XRx and XCx also benefit from WP’s semi-active suspension, with preset ride options, continually-tweaked damping and rear preload that sets itself automatically. Heated grips, too. There’s more. Go for the touring-biased XRT or round-the-globe XCA, and the revised Explorer also gets a sportmode, a rider configurablemode, hill start control, heated seats and a taller screen. In terms of high-tech-spec, this puts the big Brit right up there with the KTM 1290 Super Adventure and a BMW R1200GSwithall the factory-fit options.
